Run for the planet

April 22nd was Earth Day!

...and one of the causes we’re very committed to at Reachdesk is that of sustainability. According to Diversity.Social: “Sustainability is becoming more important for all companies, across all industries. 62% of executives consider a sustainability strategy necessary to be competitive today, and another 22% think it will be in the future.”- source

As a direct mail and eGifting platform we know that there is an environmental impact from the sends we and our clients make. Therefore, we are offering recyclable packaging, suggesting more sustainable sends and working with our clients to reduce our carbon footprint.

For Earth Day, we wanted to do that bit more and set up a run for the planet internally. We donated to a charity, money proportional to the distance covered by Reachdesk employees in the week leading up to Earth Week!

That charity was World Land Trust whose mission is to:

  •  Protect and sustainably manage natural ecosystems of the world
  • Conserve their biodiversity, with emphasis on threatened habitats and endangered species
  • Develop partnerships with local individuals, communities and organisations to engage support and commitment among the people who live in project areas
  • Raise awareness, in the UK and elsewhere, of the need for conservation, to improve understanding and generate support through education, information and fundraising

Reachdesk donated £1 for every mile we ran or walked and £1 for every 5 miles we cycled from April 15th to April 22nd. We wanted to encourage everyone, from our own regular Road Runners to those of us that enjoy a leisurely stroll, each person contributing to making a difference.

Of course, we wanted to make sure we added a bit of an edge to it and turned it into a competition, with a winner each from the men and women in the team. The top 5 were:

In total we donated almost £600 in the week and we’re proud to support World Land Trust for our contribution to Earth Day. Pedro, Kia and Aoife were able to claim bragging rights and we hope that we helped a small amount to help this planet, our home.
